How We Fund Community Transformation

January 15, 2026 · Nick Worth

Changing a corridor costs money. Patrol hours, dumpsters, equipment, beautification — none of it is free, and all of it is paid for by the people who work here.

So it is worth explaining how that money is actually held, because the structure behind it is doing real work.

The alliance is not a nonprofit. Its work is.

Standing up a 501(c)(3) takes months, costs money, and creates a second organization to govern — time and money better spent on the corridor itself. Fiscal Sponsorship solves that. An established nonprofit holds the charitable status, the alliance does the work, and contributions go into a restricted fund that can only be spent on our plan.

It is a common arrangement for community efforts like ours, and it is what lets a group of business owners move quickly without first becoming a corporation.

How ours works

Since the fall of 2025, the Cactus Community Collaborative has had a fiscal sponsor for this work: Calvary Community Church, a long-standing neighbor on this corridor. Contributions are received, held restricted to the Community Action Plan, and tracked out to vendors by their accounting team.

One sponsor serves the whole community, not each group separately. That is deliberate — shared structure is part of what makes this a collaborative rather than a set of neighbors working in parallel.

What it means for you

  • Your contribution is tax-deductible. A private security contract is a business expense. This is a charitable donation.
  • It is restricted. Money given to the CAP funds the CAP — the Shared Security Program, cleanups, beautification — and nothing else.
  • It is accounted for. Every vendor invoice is tracked against the fund, which is also what lets us report honestly to grant funders.

Give to the plan

The Community Action Plan is how this corridor changes: safety, economic growth and unity, funded by the people who work here.
